With the skin care industry being a billion dollar industry, what cream &/or cleanser do you trust to use?

I don't trust a lot of companies and I keep my life as simple as possible by not buying into a lot of these "skin care" products.

I'm 31 now and wondering if there IS something out there that does work to fix and prevent skin issues but maybe I'm wrong.

Would just a bar of soap and washing my face twice a day work just as good?

I have heard numerous times that these skin care companies are just as bad as the pharmacutical companies wherby they make these skin care products in such a way so that you have to keep using them and/or they make your skin worse in time so that you end up getting suckered into buying other products to correct what the other products did to your skin.

Just one big vicious circle is what I have heard, but i like to get as many opinions as I can as I am quite scepticle.

I don't believe in all the claims the companies make, and I also feel a bit suspicious of the looong list of chemicals on the labels of most of these products! A lot of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your body, and many of the ingredients they use are quite toxic.

Personally I use organic skincare - a mixture of home-made products (oats, avacado, almond oil and honey can all be used!) and products from health-food shops that are paraban and sodium Laureth sulphate free. I particularly like Jasons Organics products, which are not too expensive for my student budget! Neals Yard is apparently nice, but a bit pricier - I don't know if you can get their stuff in the US (I'm in the UK).
Reply:Right now for me, Obagi products are the best.

Reply:Arbonne is the way to go. Swiss health care. Products are bontanically based, only essential oils and they work on a cellular level. So they heal your skin from the inside out. Results are phenominal. Can tell you more. Report It

Reply:Dove products
Reply:Wow, this is the second time I've recommended PROACTIV tonight. It keeps oily skin under control and moisturises dry skin. In the pack, you get a face scrub, a toner, a moisuriser and a suncream. Its good and not as expensive as other stuff.
Reply:yep dove is really good. cuz it has good and mild moisturizers, and most of the other companies use really strong ingrediants and stuff.
Reply:oil of olay smooth skin cleanser. oil of olay nighttime cream at night. reg oil of olay cream during the day. Estee lauder eyzone around the eyes. smooth that eyzone around our eyes and pat it dry it makes your eyes sparkle and feeeeel soooo good!!! vitamin E for your lips. (you take the capsule and cut a small slit and put it on your lips. one capsule usually lasts 2-3 days depending on how dry your lips are. it works like a charm...!!!!
Reply:I'm in love with the whole aveeno line, its cheaper than PROACTIV (which i used to use but for me it wasn't as good)i wash my face twice a day with aveeno clear completion bar soap and moisturize with olay complete multi-radiance daily illumination UV lotion
Reply:I totally agree with those who steer clear of expensive designer lines of skin care products. It's just not necessary to pay $125 for a moisturizer when there are perfectly good products for so much less. I use original Oil Of Olay moisturizer ($6) and Suave Astringent ($4) and St. Ives Apricot Facial Cleansing Scrub ($4). I've used these products for years and years and they're great. I have very healthy skin. Because I'm very light skinned, I've been going ot a dermatologist ever since I was a teenager and I've always gotten lot's of compliments from my doctors on the condidion of my skin.
